Turns out all the big studios were founded out here so they wouldn't have to pay Edison to use film cameras? Oh the hypocrisy

LA was as close to mexico as you could get and as far from new york as possible (and still on a rail line) to make it easy to avoid the copyright houses back east (they also ripped off books a lot).
