Mother's day is coming up and I really want to get my mom something she'll appreciate. This is the first year I've been away from home (Freshman at college) and I want to let her know how much she means to me.

Now, apparently she wants some cooking spices. But that seemed kind of boring to me, I was thinking about getting her this.

Do you think I should just get her the spices? Or would something that I think she would like mean more?

I wouldn't do jewelery unless you know what she really likes.

Maybe you could get her some high quality spices and throw in some sapphron :)

Unless you are sure you know what she'll like, I'd stay away from jewelry. I mean it's nice to get jewelry, but I always feel vaguely bad when some one gets me something that I know they thought I'd like but I know I'll probably never wear it. :(

Look into gourmet spices. Or you could even get her a spice rack that comes with the spices. (But beware of buying things that take up space - those can be the best, and the worst.)

Take your mom out to a fancy dinner and she will remember it. It could cost you $200 or more though.

Don't buy her a mothersday card make her one.

You can also if you cook make your mom a nice home cooked meal and give her the spices too. Make sure you do all the cleaning up... Top it off with a movie rental you know she will enjoy.

If she wants cooking spices, you can get her some pots of dill, mint, chives, and other herbs at the garden store.
