Maybe you are looking very thin to your mother and she is concerned for your health. Maybe you shouldn't just dismiss her claims w/o even considering them. Weight alone isn't everything. Some people who are 6' tall are healthy at 200lbs, some at 220lbs etc... Height alone doesn't dictate what is healthy and what is not.
At 6,1" and 195 I'm sure he's not a meal away from starving to death.

i'm about that height & i think i'd be too thin at that weight.

my son-in-law recently lost a lot of weight on a diet similar to this. i've started calling him "Skeletor."

GAH! i know just what you guys mean,.... my family is on my case about drinking PROTIEN! regular freakin powder protien. my mom keeps telling me how her friends friend died or some crap. there is absolutely no side effects from regular whey protien besides overworking your kidneys a little, but other than that i wish they would just shut up...

now that that's out of the way, im off to the gym!

Mwahah i remember that guy! 😀

I can't believe someone of your size would only eat 30 carbs a day. I don't care if you are "cutting" or not, that is rediculous.

I've weighed 180 in the past and I'm 6'2", I got HUGE amounts of sh*t for being WAY to skinny. 6'1 195 sounds pretty slim to me, I've been lifting weights and I'm 210* now, still look skinny even at 210. It's insane how much muscle weighs, within the first week I started lifting weights I gained about 8 pounds.

I have to agree, that is pretty sick. At least just eat veggies and fruit man.

Actually, they linked the old article. The new version of the diet allows for 100g on training days and 70 on days off.

Your mom's right - the reason low carb/high protien diets work better than other low calorie diets in causing weight loss is they force your body into a state of ketosis, where you burn more calories. The main problem with ketosis is its link to kidney failure, and a lack of anti-oxidents can be a concern for cancer. My wife is a nutritionist and anytime she sees an ad for atkins or a similar diet she goes nuts - "You could get dysentery or a tapeworm, and that would help you lose weight too. Doesn't make it a good idea"

Health concerns for high protien - low carb diets

I did atkins for a little while. It was a pain in the ass just because i tend to eat out a lot, but I'd have to say, I have NEVER felt healthier or more energetic than when I was on that diet. As long as you supplement it to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals, you'll be fine.

No you won't. Your body NEEDS carbohydrates man, simple as that. I don't understand these super-low carb diets, seem like way too much of a strain on one's body.

I do agree that one show lower carb intake while trying to lose weight (or cut), and especially stay away from the high-GI foods (except for the Post-Workout shake). Trust me, eat GOOD fats, lots of protein, and oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice, black beans, etc and you'll lost weight in no time and save all the hard earned muscle.
