Proflowers is the worst ever. I have used them and they sent a very expensive arrangement to my mother on Mother's Day and it was completely dead. Turns out, after some research this was a fairly common practice for them. Their quality is horrible. Occasionally you get lucky and get some flowers that are alive. YMMV.
This also makes a difference on whether or not the shipper (usually Fed Ex) leaves the package somewhere in the hot sun for extended amounts of time. ProFlowers, in my experience has been much better at shipping freshly picked flowers.

1800Flowers orders I've placed last an average of 2-5 days before they wilt and die. I've ordered lillies and tulips from Proflowers that have lasted 3 weeks.... They do this because they ship overnight from the grower. They have great customer service. 1800Flowers customer service is hit or miss. If you ask me, a local shop is the best bet, but if you can get an arrangement delivered with a vase for under $30...do it. Most local shops charge a minimum of $15 extra for delivery.

I would never chance the ladies in my life (Wife, Mom) get dead flowers or a day or two late! That's insane. The ONLY thing they need to be is on time and alive!

Well I usually order it to get delivered a day early, so in the even that it's a day late, it's still "on time".

The ladies in my life are smart enough to realize that a shipping incident doesn't reflect on my intentions and that the situation will get fixed by me shortly. ;)

I personally think that flowers and jewelery are silly gifts in general (I'd rather find something useful to give someone), but so far this has seemed to make them happy, so I'm sticking with it.

I was scared after hearing people talking crap about them, and then i read some reviews and I felt like uh oh! But nevertheless they arrived and my mother is absolutely in love with them, she said they may be the most beautiful roses she has ever gotten from someone, she hugged me 5 x and told me thank you many times! So it was a hit! Hope you all have the same luck, mine arrived via UPS btw if anyone was wondering!

I don't know. What do you all think? A couple are a little off. There is another dozen below. Hopefully they are a little better.

My mom's came in today, haven't seen em but she said they look great. For what it's worth mine came in a Proflowers box with a return address of Proflowers so I'm guessing they don't sub these out or if they do, it's only with a handful of florists.

Those look fine.. I heard you are supposed to pull off the outer 2-3 petals on roses. The inside petals will spread out as they start blooming. Do that and follow the directions on the box (cutting the stems diagonally and putting them in the vase with the plant food packet). Once they suck up some water and nutrients they should bloom nicely.

true, my Wife and Mom are stupid...

....I skip the mistake in the first place.

I didn't say they were stupid, and put a ;) in just to note the joking nature of the comment so you wouldn't take it seriously as an insult. If you think I was honestly insulting people in your life whom I've never met... then I apologize.

Something can go wrong no matter what you pick as a gift. With something like flowers, getting something local isn't a guarantee that things are going to last a long time or that the quality will be consistent. I'm sure there are some crappy floral shops and some great ones. I've worked at one.

My alternative option would be calling a floral shop where my mother lives and then hoping that I can describe something she'd like and that the florist would do a good job. I'm more comfortable with the visuals and consistency I've gotten through Proflowers.

True, I've had a small fraction of my orders that were bad due to shipping timing or damage. Those problems were fixed for me with nothing more than a polite e-mail.

Based on my experience and the feedback I've gotten from the people that have received flowers from me, I don't feel guilty recommending them.

The main reason I started using them is that I was in college without transportation. Instead of walking around to floral shops in my area to figure out what to buy, I tried out the online alternative.

Welp. I wont do this again. The flowers got here and aren't dead or anything but its not a bouquet. Its 20 stems and a vase. No babies breath or anything else. 20 stems in cellophane.

She pulled em out and put the water and flowers in the vase and it looks like shit. Next year Ill just go buy a bouquet.
