LOL, yes it was good that I was able to work on her computer. Yea I agree I should install windows 2000, though part of the problem is she is running a lot of legacy applications which may or may not work with windows 2000. I was thinking about that and might just first image her drive onto another computer as backup, then install windows 2000 on that image or on her system and see if I can run those applications no problem. Could multiboot be an option for her? It seems like it would work but I don't know if she would start reverting to 98 agian. She said some times her computer would shut down at random intervals and now that I see how much dust she had, I know why.
 
Windows 2000 does have the compatibility mode like XP. It's just not on by default. If you want to turn it on, type this in the run command box.

regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll

Yup, she has zonealarm. At the time I didn't think it was necessary and I still don't think it is because she will allow all connections in anyways....
