Ok, so I have had a problem occur twice now and I can't find info on it so I decided to be the first in the world to post about it. ha

I have a built desktop
SPECS: GTX 285 1 gig
intel core 2 quad 2.83 ghz
4 gigs ddr crucial ram
1 tb barracuda 7200 rpm
dp45sg intel motherboard.

About three weeks ago i turned my pc on and the mother board booted and then went to a black screen! I kinda freaked out and after testing and fun i realized that it would still load the hard drive / and windows if i manually told it to boot the harddrive. Finally after talking to silly intel people and doing harddrive tests, they officially told me that the hard drive was messed up, and the motherboard was jacked, respectively. So i decided to update my bios from 102 to 105 version....lo and behold my pc works again!

Bumb up to Aug 2010, i recently had a windows update, but have not been on the pc as much because I am teaching....i turn it on tonight and black screen. I Turn it off and on a couple times same black screen. So I repeated my process.....manually told bios to load hard drive and installed the same bios over agian...guess i could have flashed it but i digress.

Now it works? Anyone heard of this? Is it harddrive? windows update? motherboard? user? I just don't know.

I have to distinct beeps on power from motherboard but they are seperated. so i don't think there is a problem there, all of my post codes seem just fine! Just the board noticing inputs and what not. Im confused!

Thanks for your future input.

Sounds a lot like a power issue.. Does the black screen have a flickering underscore on it? That could denote a bad HD or half detecting HD...

i believe it did, but what was weird is that after i updated bios it fixes it.

I forgot to mention earlier what made this whole thing wierd was that at first i thought i was getting a virus...i kept hearing sounds one day like movie adds, people talking etc...i thought it was a virus but could detect nothing. Soon after this the black screen crap happened...never heard it agian but theres a little more info to my twilight zone pc problem.. i will pay more attn to the screen if it goes black agian.

I wonder if the CMOS Battery is dead? Although that shouldn't wipe the BIOS so I basically got nothing.

well I have had the PC for a year. And if the Bat was out wouldn't i get jack? I mean currently its working ok...i turn it on it posts and bam windows but before it would go to a black screen and id have to go to the bios and tell it to load the h.d. manually then it would work.

I'm not entirely sure. As far as I know, the Battery only keeps BIOS Settings and not the actual BIOS itself.

I had a friend with this issue after a lightning storm while they were using the shittiest power bar ever. The PC started to act up. I'd get another hard drive and see if it detects. Also make sure all cables are nice and snug.

Can you give that a shot?
