Whenever somebody asks for advice on choosing a motherboard for their system, I cringe when the name ECS is mentioned.
I work in a computer store that sees these boards returned on an average basis.
Although I am not claiming to be an expert on them, I created a list of them based on my observations of return rate
Highest stability to lowest

Intel ( if you are not overclocking)
Asus
Abit/DFI/
Soyo/Chaintech
MSI
PC Partner
PC Chips
ECS

Obviously all motherboards are not listed here so please feel free to add. I do this in the hope that it helps someone making a motherboard decision

I've had pretty good luck with PC-CHips so far. No problems thus far. I've had two completely different boards which I've only replaced for an upgrade from a Thunderbird 1300 to an 2200XP and no overclocking is being used in this house.

We've bought both Asus, Biostar and Soyo for work. We've never had problems with any of them.
I once had an ECS for my home system and it did give me lots of problems. Also, gigabytes are pretty
cool and they don't cost too much.

I'm going to build my brother a new computer and I'm looking into the Biostar, unless i can find an inexpensive
asus board.
