motherboards that take single RDRAM?

Are there any existing motherboards that will run with a single stick of RDRAM?

I got a single stick by mistake for someone, and to save face I'll take it from him if I can get myself a board that will take it without added expense.

Any help you guys could provide would be great.

as far as I know, rdram has to be used in pairs. If you wanna cut the cost some, you could always go for a ddr solution while not losing much in performance.

On a P4 mobo, they gotta be used in pairs. The older P3 boards that supported Rambus - I forget the chipset - allowed you to use one.

820 for the P3 was a single channel chipset so it only needed one RIMM. That's the only luck you'll have.

I think you can get something like a jumper off pricewatch for about $4. It should work.

so, basically I should pick up the 820 chipset since I've got a P3 - 450 lying around. I see this one: Asus P3C-E

Anyone think anything would be better?

If I were in your shoes I'd start with the most expensive mobo you can afford in this list, start hunting down reviews, and find one that works for you. Cross reference vendor with Reseller Ratings of course.

umm......start with the most expensive....ok. But a) I don't need a dual board, and b) the lan/scsi model of the Asus won't help enough to make me spend an extra $50-60

So, if I want to make use of this memory, I'm better off getting the board I selected. I guess I'm better off returning the memory, as I'd be doing myself a favor by getting a P4 and 2 Rimms for a much better performer.... Just thinking aloud.

Get the Asus board. Its only $49, if you don't like it your not out that much.

The P3C-E board is an 820 chipset board that uses 2-RDRAM, but they give you a blank DIMM to use should you choose to use just one.

Just remember that in real life applications, an 820/RDRAM board will not outperform a 440BX chipset. Hardly anything does, anyway. But you will get awfully good memory bandwidth scores.

Don't rob Peter to pay Paul. A stick of 128 MB Samsung RDRAM is $38 on newegg. Going back to a single-channel rdram board, with an i820, seems nutty -- those were poor-performance boards.

What size is the RDRAM that you bought?
