Motherboards that support HDD ATA passwords for FDE?

Other than Intel does anyone make mobos that provide this facility?

I know laptops usually do but I'm finding it surprisingly hard to find a desktop mobo that supports this feature.

I recently (on the basis of Anandtech and other reviews) bought a Samsung 850 Pro SSD but didn't realise this feature was required so now I can't actually use it properly as intended. I realise the drive is always encrypted but without the password it's like a safe with the door open.

Any thoughts? I like Asus but can't find any of their mobos that support it and their support forum won't even allow me to post so no luck there.

Cheers!
Paul.

Q77 chipset that boards support ATA security

Intel Q57 chipsets boards support ATA security
Found that many boards only use a 8 character count through.

Cheers John. They seem to be old chipsets unfortunately, not the newer socket 1150 ones 🙁

I thought maybe the newer Q87 would support it but I can't see it anywhere.

Asus have an irritatingly named exclusive feature called Disk Unlocker however this is to do with >2TB drives.

Good news, everyone. ASRock just recently updated their BIOS to 1.07B, so their desktop mobos will support ATA passwords and SED/FDE with Samsung and Intel SSDs. Why this isn't advertised or mentioned in reviews or ads is beyond me, but there ya go. You can email the tech team overseas to get it at Asrock_TSD@asrock.com.tw
