Title says it all. Looking for mainly LGA 1150/1151 boards. When was this first possible?

Thanks!

Certainly, 1151 Skylake boards with PCI-E m.2 sockets allowed that, and later.

I think that many late-model 1150 (Haswell) ATX Z97 boards allowed it too.

Thanks! Not the least bit interested in gaming. Looking more for a workstation MB.

Looking at a I3-8100 (which needs DDR4 RAM and a 300-series MB).

Are all the MB's at the 'egg geared toward gaming?

Not all of them. Some of them are oriented towards "corporate stable model" (Asus and other's "CSM" models). There are also no-frills lower-end budget boards.

That said, what's wrong with the "gamer" boards? Some of them may have onboard (RGB) lighting, which on many can be disabled in BIOS, but other than that, they are generally built pretty-well, because they are designed for overclocking. Remember too, that the "gamer / enthusiast" market is one of the few PC sub-markets that's actually growing, and most people buying PC parts to build themselves, are going to be gamers and enthusiasts. Most "ordinary" folks, even if they need to buy a desktop PC, will just get a Dell or HP or Lenovo. So don't expect that many of the DIY motherboards to be "ordinary".
