I've been trying to configure a Conroe E6600 ( on the Gigabyte compatibility list) for this GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard.

More than a year ago, we determined that a certain high-end 680i motherboard would over-clock pretty well with a Conroe/Kentsfield (1066 FSB) CPU on the board with a BIOS revision of "v.1303" or earlier. People had terrible problems with the board when trying to over-clock these 65nm processors while running v.1305 or later. Later, we found that the 680i's were touted to be "Wolfdale compatible," but that BIOS revisions favoring the Wolfdale were lagging the initial release of the Wolfie by a few months.

I notice that nobody seems to have as many troubles with this -UD3R Gigabyte board as I have, when running Penryn Wolfies or Yorkies.

The Gigabyte compatibility list says that the E6600 is compatible beginning with BIOS F3. But the board has been shipping with something more like an F7 BIOS -- I understand the latest available is F8.

I also notice that some of my problems (or even all that I can currently identify) -- go away if I disable all the power-management features. I suspect that the Conroe core may not be compatible with one or more of these features, even as it may have been capable of C1E and EIST.

Does anyone have similar experiences to this? Or any insights? I'm going to post a message at Gigabyte's web-site, but they're slow in responding.

It would be good to know if there is a BIOS revision that favors the Conroe/Kentsfield 1066 FSB CPUs for this board.
