I'm doing an upgrade for a friend but he's running windows 2000, I remember reading an article that showed you can upgrade totally different motherboards and chipsets as long as you nuked the hardware section of the registers before the swap to prevent BSOD's (blue screens of death). I can't for the life of me find the article but I knew it had to do with removing the IDE/chipset drivers from the registry, if anyone knows the settings offhand or can help out, be much appreciated.

The hardware part of the registry is almost all stored in ENUM. Don't know if this is everything you need, but it might be a start.
