Motherboard Upgrade Question

Hi,

I'm an avid Warcraft player and while the game runs decent on the PCI only motherboard that I have, I am sick of the choppyness. Is there a motherboard I can upgrade to that has PCI Express Slots for my Dimension 2400? At the very least, one I can get that uses AGP?

I've upgraded everything in a PC before except for my motherboard so the task seems a bit daunting to me because I'm not sure where to start.

...and yes, before anyone points out. My system is about 2 years old and to some it may be "dead technology" but I'm not worried about that too much.

Specs:

The Chipset is an Intel 845GV, I have a ATI Radeon 9250 PCI card and a Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz processor and 1 Gig of Ram.

If you need more information, please feel free to shout for it.

Thanks in advance!

well...

I've got no ideas for a mobo to use

But almost everything is all PCI E now
(learned that when looking for my own replacement)

note: PCI and PCI E are not compatible (just a heads up)
most PCI E mobos have PCI Slots

that's what I found when looking for me, hope it helps

845GV w/ that Pentium, I think is socket 478, so you'd have to find a mobo on that socket. Then you have to take into account if the Dell PSU will work with another motherboard and if a different motherboard will fit into that case. Even if it did fit in the case, I'm not sure if it'd be a problem hooking up the connectors for the power switch, LEDS, etc...

If it is in fact s478, here is an example
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138262
it has AGP also. Not sure if they have any of these on PCI-E.

Really just depends on what you want to do/spend.

also Glom, dont forget

Windows doesn't like it much when you change out the whole Mobo and unless you have an install disk you wont be able to repair it to run windows from the HD

I was thinking about upgrading not to long ago

Having read about your system, and being an avid WoW player each night, and having just recently upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram, from an old nforce2 to a new 680i,

I offer the advice, do not upgrade the dell dimension 2400.

No matter what you put in there, it will require a new power supply, a new installation of Windows XP, and a new video card.

Simply advice, but you will be much much better off buying any other low price modern system with a 6150 motherboard already installed, which you could then add any of the excellent sub-150 dollar pci-express video cards in as money or holiday gifts permitted.

WoW, and burning crusade, and future expansions, will become more needy of a good video card and lots of ram.
