Motherboard upgrade - need some help

i'm upgrading to this motherboard from a similar one, just smaller in size (pci slots)
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=45661
(any comments about it?)

i was wondering if changing the motherboard includes anything more than changing the PCI components, hard disks, CDs etc. and if it does, what is it and how to do it? what to do with bios? is that already included in the new motherboard or am i supposed to take it off the old one somehow and connect it to the new one?

any help would be highly appreciated 🙂

The bios is already on the new board.....u need to rewire the switch from your case to the new motherboard, add the peripherals onto it, plugin power supply, add ram, processor, heat sink.......you should know the rest if you are trying to do this

depending on your os a good thing to do before making the switch is to go into the system properties, and unistall everything, don't shut down until finished. shutdown the system(don't let it restart or you'll have to do it all over again.) then replace your mobo and re-populate it. then you can load all the drivers back onto the system with out having to worry about having extra drivers that aren't needed fubar'ing the works. if you have xp you will likely have to call micro$oft to re-activate it in order to get to the os. it's a pain in the arse, but a necissary evil when running the new micro$oft OS's. (you might also have to re-activate Office if you have it, and any other softare that requires activation hash codes.

i have xp pro. i never knew that software would be affected by changing the motherboard. if i'm unable to get that activation code from microsoft, does that mean i'll have to re-install windows? that would really be a pain in the backside as i done it not so long ago.

for now you shouldn't have a problem re-activating it, but I do have my doubts about the future when microsoft stops supporting these products.

drivers have everything to do with how the os uses the hardware. I'd definatly make a backup of critical data files before the upgrade just as a precaution, once in a blue moon, something in the agp drivers gets foobar'd and the system can't get to the os, but as highly unlikely as it is, if it does happen, you'll have a backup of you data just in case.

Cheers

well, if i have to i'll re-install windows. it won't be the end of the world but rather a big pain in the a$$!

thanx for the help mate  it's appreciated
