Hi fellow AT'ers...

my friend and i are planning project cases from scratch but for simplicity we'd like to use an existing slideout motherboard tray to mount the mobo and cards, and just incorporate it into our case design... the trouble is, we don't want to spend a $50 getting a case just for the tray, are there any places that would sell just a motherboard tray?..... T.I.A.

That's a very good question supradude, I haven't seen any, but I've heard of people taking old AT cases, and Modifying the backs, and chopping them till they just get a backplane. besides just buying a case for its tray, thats the only way I've seen it done.

What I did for my case is have the mounting holes attached to the frame of the case itself.

The card grill for the peripheral cards I took from an AT case and attached that to a piece of wood 1/2 inch thick. (for compensation of spacers of 1/4 inch) and I got wooden dowels with holes drilled in the middle and I had tiny pieces of it cut 1/4 inch long. I glued the dowels on the frame and drilled a hole large enough to fit a wood screw that is just right enough to enter the motherboard holes.

Gee... I wish I had pictures... :(
