my cpu has overheated and died very quickley as the heatsink came loose and i dident see untill it was too late. the computer must of been running for a good while after it came off before i noticed.
i would like to know if there is any chance at all that the motherboard will still be ok so i will know if getting a new cpu is an option.

Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-7DX+
CPU : AMD Athlon XP 2000+

Thanks in advance

Probably, but if your motherboard is dead, you'll need a new one, anyway so if your board supports the CPU you want to use, you can get another board if it doesn't work. If it does, you don't have to spend the money. 🙂

i suppose your right, but the motherboard takes athlons and durons. too old to buy new. looks like two trips to ebay then :-<
shame if it is dead, i will miss the dual bios and my custom bios :-<

that brings me to a whole new question.
if the board is dead and i put a diffrent working cpu in there , will it kill the cpu ?

thanks for the quick reply BTW

There are still some new socket a cpus listed on pricewatch. I would buy new, whether ebay or pricewatch. If the board's bad, it shouldn't effect a new cpu, as long as you have the heatsink in place.
