So Ive been having PSU problems lately and the computer is having a tough time starting at full power and such so I have to improvise by starting at lower clock speeds and removing components just to get it to start up while my new PSU is on the way....

But last night I suddenly saw these flashing images from my case and i open it up it up and voila the motherboard is on fire... It wasnt the bridge or the CPU or anything but a little thing next to the CPU....

I haven't tried starting the computer back up yet but I've taken it apart somewhat and just been inspecting the damage to see if it spread to other components...

So far everything looks ok except for a little black area on the motherboard.

Any suggestions?

If you knew that you were having PSU problems already, and they were so severe that you have to remove cards to boot.. don't you think that perhaps you should have waited? I'm guessing that part of your problem was actually the mobo in the first place, sounds like the caps or VRMs onboard were going out on you. Whether that was a cause or effect relating to some additional PSU issues I can't say. But hopefully this will be a good illustration to people of how, if you know that you are having severe issues requiring a replacement component, that maybe you should just leave the PC off once in a while?

PS. What brand mobo was that?

If it's next to the CPU it's something related to the power circuits on the MB, you've probably blown a combination of Capacitors / transistors that ended up shorting out causing the fire.

No offence in saying this but, if you knew there were major problems with the PSU already, you're an idiot for even attempting to use it again.
