motherboard shot?

I posted this originally over in the video forum, but it seems more like a motherboard problem perhaps....

Problem--Leadtek K7NCR18G Pro (Nforce 2 IGP) won't output any display. The integrated video doesn't do anything, and neither do two different graphics cards (AGP). I can't get a beep out of the speakers either, and the only signal I get is the LED's on my keyboard all flashing in unison over and over when the power comes on. I've also gone down to one stick of memory to see if that's related. Any suggestions? It seems this has less to do with video and more with a suddenly screwy motherboard.

Have you cleared the CMOS?
Has the board ever worked?
What was the last thing you did to it before it messed up?

Welcome to the Forums (if you haven't been welcomed already)!

I believe I cleared the CMOS--lemme make sure I did it right. I move the jumper and power on, and then move it back, right?

Yes, the board has worked for some time now. It's my brother's system that I built for him. He said he went to bed and it worked (he left it on overnight) and in the morning there was no image on the monitor. Reboots result in the same thing.

So far as I can tell, my brother has only used this system for internet and typing papers, so I would say Word was about the last thing he used.

What kind of power supply was on it? Try unplugging the ATX cable, inspecting it, and plugging it back in.

It's an Allied 300W PSU--came with the case from Newegg. I've now tried an old PCI card that I found, and I still get the same thing--no video output, and the three flashing keyboard lights. Would a dead CMOS battery cause this? I'm sure those flashing keyboard lights are an error code of some sort, but I haven't been able to find anything about that.

In my opinion, I don't think you used the proper procedure to clear the CMOS; the proper way is as folllows:

1. Completely power off system.
2. Move CMOS_CLEAR Jumper from position 1 to 2: Keep it in position 2 for about 5-10 seconds.
3. Move the CMOS_CLEAR Jumper back to position 1.
4. Power on computer.

hope that helps.

Sounds like it may be a memory issue. Try removing the memory, and then trying with one chip in the different sockets, then the other chip, etc. Or the bios chip may be a deader.

Or MB is grounded improperly. Ive had this in the past.

Memory would still result it beeps... I actually have this IDENTICAL issue with a SOYO right now. I hate the fscking thing though so I replaced it. I tested my CPU and RAM in a dif MB and they were fine. PSU is fine too so I "know" it was the MB. I hate it... its getting a Viking funeral tonight.

Dunno CMC... try running the board oustide your case and test CPU/RAM in dif MB if you can
