Motherboard sensor readings got me worried

Well I finally figured out which modules need to be loaded for my MSI KT8 motherboard so that lm_sensors can detect the I2C chip. And i got the sensor readings plugged into gkrellm, but a few things are making me worried.

1) My vcore was too low, like 1.45. In my bios it was set to auto, i bumped it up ti manual 1.55 and it keeps a steady 1.52 now (bog). Why was the auto set so low? lm_sensors flagged it and Sandra also flagged it after i investigated further.

2) My -5V reading jumps in and out of alarm range for lm_sensors, and MSI Core Center flags it every once in a while too. It jumps from -5.20 (which is within range) to -5.25 or -5.30 which triggers alarm. Is this damaging anything? My knowledge of the solid state electronics behind power supplies and motherboards is seriously lacking ?:(

On the upside, my CPU and Case temps are <100'F, CPUFAN spinning > 4k rpms, and all other readings look good lol

-5V was for the old ISA bus and is no longer used. It was removed entirely from the ATX spec with version 1.2 released over a year ago.

A pretty generic one from Hercules, a 450Watt with 2 80mm fans that i got for cheap.

A quick google and i found it.

These motherboards readings are kinda annoying, you never see em or worry about em til you stare at them for a day lol.

So the -5V bouncing from -5.30 to -5.20 is nothing to worry about? I just worry my motherboard or CPU is slowing being eaten away ~

And why would the automatic setting for the VCORE set it out of the recommended range?

Posted this same question on Hardocp, SA, and a few other tech forums, first response here, go AnandTech trolls!

I just hit up www.formfactor.org and looked at the ATX spec, I see there they have removed pretty much all instances of the -5v in the last few revisions, so I guess l learned somethign new :)

So basically, unless I have a ATX board with ISA slots, this voltage sensor is monitoring a part of the power supply not being used?

Correct...it's not being used. Some ps units don't even have a -5v line.
