Motherboard seems to be locking up

I have a Compaq Presario 5005CL w/ 1.1ghz AMD Athlon that seems to be randomly locking up after 1-5 minutes of being on. I replaced everything with working spares; ram, video card, cables, and hard drive. I figured it had to be the mobo/bios because when I replaced the battery, I went into the bios to correct the time and it locked up (time froze and couldnt do anything). It did that a few times, and there was a newer bios available, so I upgrade it. The upgrade went fine, but it still locked ups, both in windows and bios.

Does the motherboard need to be repaced, or anything else to check?

You might put Motherboard Monitor 5 on there to monitor you temps and voltages. Use the interval log feature and have it record the readings to text.doc.

I dont think it'll stay up long enough to install it. Right now it seems to only last 1 minute or so before it locks up. All fans are running (have the case open).

most likely the mobo, how old is the mobo as some 3 to 5 year old mobos had defective capacitors on all manufactures,do a internet search for defective capacitors

From 2001. I'll have to find the motherboard model, but it was made by Compaq. I did a search to buy a replacement, but came up short. I'll do the search for defective capacitors and see what turns up.
