I just got a 2nd video card (3 monitor setup), but I'm a dolt and just realized that my motherboard only has 1 PCI-express 16 slot. Can I just replace the motherboard, or is it worth it to get a new system ? Cost isn't a huge issue, but I'm not a gamer or overclocker. i use it mostly for browsing and playing multiple poker games online. This is my current setup:

K8N Neo4 Platinum
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice
ATI X800XL 256MB/256bit (twin plain dvi)
GeForce 8500GT ( dual link dvi)

I don't mind spending on a new board, and CPU and case. I figure that these video cards will be good enough for my purpose? I'd appreciate any recommendations for the motherboard/cpu setup that would work. I plan to use XP with my old hard drive.

You can check newegg's open box section for an sli board. They usually don't come with any accessories, such as the backplate. Etech4sale also has a fair selection of 939 boards. Intel price cuts happen this sunday, if you're ready to make the switch.

It depends. If you have the money and think you'll benefit from the increased CPU power, make the switch. If you don't have the money or don't think you'll benefit (it doesn't sound like it since you will only be doing desktop apps) then a new mobo is the way to go if you can find it for cheap. I assume the multiple vid cards is for multiple monitors, not for SLI?

Yes, it is for multiple monitors and not SLI. I found this board from the sticky.
"Supports AMD Socket AM2 Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 / Sempron
The M2N-SLI Deluxe supports AMD socket AM2 single-core Athlon 64/ Sempron and dual-core Athlon 64 X2/ Athlon 64 FX processors with 2MB / 1MB / 512KB L2 cache, which is based on 64-bit architecture. It features 2000 / 1600 MT/s HyperTransport Bus, dual-channel un-buffered DDR2 800 memory support and AMD Cool 'n' Quiet! Technology."

I guess my processor is just Athlon 64 correct?

Also, maybe a dumb question but when I attached my cpu I remember it stuck onto the board with some kind of glue. Do I just rip it off when removing?
