Motherboard replacement?

MSI K7T Turbo with AMD 1800 cpu

So I get up the other morning, and my computer (left on for system maintenance) is kaput. The monitor is black, but all the fans in the box are whizzing away. No problem with the power supply, as far as I can tell.

The motherboard diagnostic lights are all on, meaning it detects power, but never goes over to the next sequence, which is Early Chipset Initialization.

And that's all that happens.
I don't want to wipe the hard drive (of course I didn't do all the backups that I should have), and I don't really want to build a new system at this time ($), and the K7T is still available. Can I successfully swap out the motherboard? What else might be involved?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
