well.. one of the capacitors on my current mb is about to go bad.. asus p4b266
so I guess its about time to pickup a new motherboard..

Im running a northwood 1.6a @ 2.4 (full load temp is 39c)

but over the past few months, Ive stayed so busy at work that I havent been keeping up with the latest motherboard options and newest technologies..

i want to be able to use all my existing peripherals (3 ata100 harddrives, dvdrw, cdrw, agp card, etc...)
but also would like to have any connections for future upgrades.. sata? pci express? etc...

and it has to be one that is good for overclocking, of course.. i dont mind jumpers, but prefer a softmenu
and Im not looking to spend a ton

any recommendations?

Checkout the msi pt880 neo LSR with via dual channel chipset $62 shipped at newegg.com. I recommend this board with your cpu over the 865pe boards, because the via chipset has more memory settings for your cpu.

Get the Asus P4B533, I had 2 of them w/ 1.6a & was able to oc'd them to 2.4 no problem. You should be able to find them cheap...

i should have included that in my specs
Ive very firmly against the via chipset.. Ive never had anything but problems with them, and dont know many people that recommend them

sure, works fine for some.. but i prefer to stick with the intel chipset

I just had the same thing happen on my P4B533. And I also have a 1.6a.

I'll be watching this thread.

my current mb is still ok for now.. until i make up my mind which is the best way to go

Im borderline on whether to just replace my board cheap with a disposable one off ebay, or some other used board

or to wait around for more suggestions (and of course look into diff options myself) to upgrade the mb.
Really, the p4b266 was perfectly fine, but if I had to replace it.. I was just figuring it would be best to go ahead and try to find something that has room for future growth with the newest technology

oh.. and i didnt ask in my original post..
does anyone know if you get a board with ddr2 slots, can i use my current ddr in it? havent read much on it, so wasnt sure if its backwards compatible.
