1. Refering to your provided pic: The blue and the black one below it. Both are to the right of the power connection.
2. That's two of them, capable of 4 total IDE devices.
3. Yes, put the two optical drives on one cable, connecting to one IDE channel and another cable going to another channel for the hard drive.
4. It's pretty much just optical drives and HDDs that still use IDE. However, both are starting to become SATA devices.

Here's another way..
Find a data cable that fits into your hard drive. That is the IDE cable
Plug it into your hard drive.
Find a socket on the mobo that the cable will plug into. That is the IDE socket.

Just one hooker.....
There are two IDE sockets and the hard drive goes into the primary socket.
It may be stenciled on the mobo, if not, then check the manual.
If no manual... then you got a 50 - 50 shot of getting the right one.

Hi, IDE connectors are 40 pins. Floppy connector is 34 pins. IDE 0 and 1 (or 1 and 2) are usually printed on the MB right next to the connectors. Jim
