OK few questions:

First I have this board: Intel 865perl

I want to switch it with this board (because I have current problems with my motherboard):

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...talog=280&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1&section=3

Is this a good board, and will it be compatable with my current processor? (Intel 2.8 800fsb)

Secondly, the other day I was "messing" around with my board and wanted to see the actual processor and couldn't get the heat cover off of the chip. Also, some red stuff came off onto my latex gloves. Can anyone give me a link to directions on switching out a motherboard that includes explanations of how to get that heat cover off without ruining anything?

Will be switching mobos soon, thanks.

Linked

Yes the AI7 is an excellent board.
Secondly leave the chip alone. You don't sound qualified to play with such things.

Fair enough. However, how will I get the chip from one motherboard to the other? Thanks for the help!

Let the computer get a little warm , shut it down, release the heatsink clips, and pull the heatsink off the processor (it may need a slight twist. With the heatsink off pull the ZIF lever up and lift the processor out (you can use tweezers). Don't bend the pins. Remove any thermal paste from the cpu and heatsink with alcohol and a lint free cloth. Insert the cpu into the new board, apply new thermal paste, attach the heatsink. All done.

Great. Two questions, and thank you for your patience.

First: What was the red stuff that came off on my gloves when I took the heat sink off the first time? (Just curious)

Second: When I unclipped the processor, it still wouldn't lift. Any particular reason why? Am I missing a step? (I took the heatsink off, flipped the clamp lever, and still could not pick up the processor, or at least the heat covering that is on top of it).

Thanks for helping a hardware noob. This is how I am learning:beer:

A) Have no idea
B) You can't get the metal cover off. Period. Is the lever at a 90 degree angle? And are you still trying to get the cover off or are you pulling the pcb board?

Hmmm. Seems I know even less than I think.

Anyway, disregard anything that I have said. Is there any links to replacing a motherboard instructions?

I took the heatsink off, and there was 1 very tiny lever next to the processor, and I flippled that from one side to the other. However, the processor still would not come off. Is there a step I missed?

If you raise the lever ro 90 degrees the processor should lift right out. Download your motherboard manual. It will give instructions for installing the cpu.
