Sorry, I know this is redundant, but I haven't followed hardware in years and I can't seem to find a motherboard roundup. So, what chipset should I look for when upgrading to a Thunderbird/DDR memory setup? (What manufacturer is providing the best band for the buck with it too?)

Thanks.

chipset the amd 760set, the most popular bang for the buck right now is the Epox 8k7a, very nice .. supposedly the kt266 is getting better (VIA), but i think for ddr, the 760 probably still beats out the kt266 .. well good luck, you can find some good roundups on this site, just look in the "motherboards" archive ..

The best bang for the buck would be the Elite ECS K7S5A (SiS 735) motherboard, a TBird 1200/266 CPU and 256MB of Crucial PC2100 DDR ram. The Elite board will also support PC133 in addition to the DDR ram. The motherboard will likely be well under $100, the 1.2Ghz CPU around $115, and $41 for the ram.

i have heard alot of recommending of EPox motherboards..... but i have'nt seen many reviews that were good. The usally are rated "okay"... if you want a good motherboard go with one from Asus or Abit. Both companies make great motherboards, just pick the one with the features you want.

check out: Asus & Abit

Reviews/Roundups: Anandtech & GamePC &GamersDepot & Electic Tech

Good Online Stores/Would highly reccomend: Mwave Plycon Extreme PC cooling & Computers4sure

if you need futher assistance, let me know.
