CPU wise, Intel wins the speed race, they also win the heating race. They've got higher clocks, but AMD is more effective per clock.
Thus, a lower clocked AMD CPU will trumph an Intel CPU a fair ways higher than it.
If you were to compare a similarily clocked AMD and Intel CPU, AMD would win by a long shot.
Notice that Intel's highest clocked CPUs are at 3800MHz to AMD's 2600MHz. Long, long ways away.
But AMD's nice FX55 @ 2600MHz crushes Intel's 570 (3800MHz) in gaming and a fair bit of multimedia applications, though Intel is regaining a little of their power.
