Hello all. I currently have an Epox 8K7A on my WinXP rig. I am going to be putting in an Epox 8K3A+ soon and want to know if I am going to have to reformat windows. I have not tried to upgrade a mobo with WinXP yet. I tried a few times with Win2K and had lot's of issues. Has anyone done this with success? I would really like to avoid starting from scratch if possible. Thanks for any info.

You will run into the same problems that you ran into with win2k. ALthough it can be done, it is easier and a better idea just to reinstall the OS.

I forgot to mention that even if you are successful in doing so you need to reactivate WinXP due to the hardware changes.

AH poop. Well I guess it was time to do it anyway. Thanks guys. I was just trying to postpone the reformat thing for a while longer. Oh well. All in the name of faster WU times!

Yeah, pretty much any change in chipset from different vendors (going intel/nforce/amd/via/sis/etc.) will reed a re-install. Also going from different major versions of chipsets from the same vendor you will most likely need to reinstall. (i.e. going from 440bx to i815)
But going from closer versions of chipsets, like say a kt266 to a kt333 should be fine.

I Read a Faq somewhere, on the procedures to follow, when swapping m/b's and W2K. I think it worked for xp also.

Try a Google for it.
