Motherboard question (GA-EX58-UD5/Extreme)

Hello guys and girls,

I'm looking to buy either a GA-EX58-UD5 or GA-EX58-Extreme. I'm leaning more toward the Extreme because of the water block on the NB and its only £20 more than the UD5. Plus the NB gets a much better air cooling system as well.

Any way, I've got a couple of questions:

1. Is the the water block on the Extreme copper?
2. When will MBs with the new X58 chips come out and does the revised chip make much of a difference (crystall balls at the ready unless you have links to the differences between the old and new chips)?

The reason for question no. 1 is that I'm considering running a seoncd loop in my system and I don't mind running 3.8" ID tubing (afer all it is what Woodbutcher uses).

I'm wasn't sure which category to put this in since it covers both cooling and MBs.

P.S. Sorry Aigo, because I know in the past you gave me reasons to go with the UD5. I reckon for £20 extra I might as well consider the Extreme further.

P.P.S. WaitingForNehelam told me to go with something other than the UD5 because of the motherboard squeal (Google it for more info). I can live with the noise; I've got an X2, which will soon be joined by its twin, so I think they will create a lot more noise than the MB every could. Plus I like Giggy MBs and they are reasonably priced for the stuff you get (I also like all the PCI sockets they provide).

Well, i kept reading here and there that the UD3 boards for the 775 socket were killer overclockers and I went ahead anyways with my Maximus II Formula board. I am happy I bought my UD3R more than any other board I've ever bought. So, I'd recommend, seeing that everyone is saying the board squeals to go with the one that doesn't squeal 🙂

Problem is that I can't find any other MBs which have the same features (and number of PCI sockets) as the Giggy for the same price range; £210 - £235.

I don't want to go with Crapsus boards because of all the bad stories I've heard. The mid- to high-end EVGA boards are generally more expensive than the UD5/Extreme. The same goes for the MSI boards. I wouldn't touch Foxconn with a 10' barge pole.

Supposedly, all the giggy X58 MBs squeal (according to posts I've read on the 'Net), which means that it can't be detrimental to the board, otherwise Gigabyte would be in serious shit with RMAs. Plus, as I metioned before, I won't mind the squeal.

Like my brother always says about a car; if it start to become noisy, just turn the stereo up louder 😀
