Hello All,

I am looking at building a new system. At the moment I am looking for motherboards. I am currently looking at the ASUS P4S533 and the ABIT BD7II. Is one better than the other? I am not looking for the most expensive motherboard on the market. I am currently running a P3 700 mhz system and want to explore the P4 world. I want a motherboard that will last me a while so that I can upgrade the processor if I want to down the road. I don't want a motherboard with onboard video because I have a card and wish to use cards for the time being. If you can think of another motherboard that may suit me better, please let me know.

asus p4pe is a good one
it has room for many upgrading options
ht technology for when you want to upgrade cpu, usb 2.0 which is backwards compatible with 1.1

only other board you may want to wait for in the near future is a granite bay chipset board, it boasts dual channel ddr

if you dont mind your system right now, intel will be coming out with a series of newer chipsets later next year

//edited for error
got threads mixed and typed agp8x sorrylol

Go into this forum and read what Thugsrook found out when he was working
with an ABIT BE7, he had stunning performance.

don't worry about AGP 8X because you won't even see any difference between the 2 unless you run 3dmark all day on a 9700Pro.
Go for a i845PE chipset wither Abit, or Epox, or Albatron as I feel they are the best deals.

Hey cmdrdredd:

I too am in market for an 845PE board. (I don't need AGP 8x either, just wanted to point it out.) Anyway, you mentioned 2 of the boards that I have my search down to:

ABIT IT7 Max2 ver 2
EPOX 4pea+

Both have similar configurations, exactly like I'm looking for. The EPOX is about $40 cheaper! I'm just leary about the EPOX as there aren't the reviews, forums etc for info & support.

Any thoughts by you or others are appreciated!

If you can't choose a board because the features are so close then think of this....

RMA warranty!

NO company can touch Abit for a speedy quick replacement *IF* anything goes wrong some day in the future

So your choice IMOH would be the Abit over Asus besides the Abit is a better oc'er
