motherboard problems?

Hi all...
I've got a k62/500 on a P5A Asus motherboard with an ess688 soundcard... lately I can just play audio CDs and rmi files... trying to play mp3s/wav files causes the media application (winamp, media player) to crash and causes my motherboard to send beeps (long beeps) whenever the soundcard is being attempted to be used.. have tried a different soundcard (yamaha opl3/sa3) but to no avail... disabling the soundcard seems to be the only viable option until I get an answer... and another thing, transferring anything onto or from my floppy drive also causes a persistent beep... so I
really hope someone can help out soon...
thanks,
beepingly yours.

It appears that the MP3/Wave codecs are corrupted. Try to uninstall
reinstall the player.............
