Motherboard problems... after I downclock????

Greetings.

I am hoping you perhaps could help me diagnose and maybe help me fix a problem I'm having with my motherboard.

I've had a sweet experience in being able to keep a 1.3 gig athlon at a stable 1.5 gig without any problems for months.

Then I got it into my head to downclock down to 10.5x133 and the PC won't start now.. at all!

It will initialize the harddisks and CD drives, but nothing beyond that.

I've tried taking out everything (all cards and memory) and just run the motherboard, but I won't even get a peep out of the thing. I've tried resetting the CMOS both by taking the power off and resetting it and having the power on and resetting it.. nothing worked. I've tried another CPU (an athlon XP 1500) that didn't work.

So I'm totally desperate.. what can I do to try to revive my motherboard? Is it totally dead? Can anything be done? Can you help?

Thanks for any replies.

Sounds like you've tried most of the normal ways to get it to work. 🙁 What does the board do when you try to boot? Are there any beeps? Do the fans come one and/or drives spin up? What board is this? Can you try a "non-XP" cpu like a duron or another athlon? Maybe your board/BIOS doesn't support XP cpu's.
The next thing I would check, before getting a new board, would be the PS. You can get an inexpensive PS tester (made by Antec I think) at some stores for under $12.00. Trust me, it will come in handy more than just this once. It can tell you if your PS is OK or not; nothing much more than that.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS? If you do not have a jumper on the board to do that, you can unplug the machine, take out the battery, wait 15 min, put the battery back in, plug back in, and try to boot.

Buz2b:

The board initializes the fans, the cd-drives and the harddisks.. but nothing else.

I don't even get a error peep out of it when I take everything out of it, except the cpu.

The board is a KT7A-RAID mobo.

You're right about the XP CPU, perhaps I didn't have the correct upgrades for it. I'll try to find another older athlon.

Den: I'll try that, but isn't it the same as just resetting the CMOS?

Thanks for your replies.

One last thing; when you pulled everything out, did you try to boot with just the "baics"? That would be the cpu w/HSF, one stick of RAM, video card and maybe a floppy.
