Hello,

I am new to this

I currently have a problem with my gaming computer it freezes whilst playing a game for example for a couple of minutes on half graphics which is low for a game like GTA V.

The computer also has froze on start up several times and from then on it fails to post restarts then posts to work on the second attempt. That was the past but now it is freezing on regular games and on heavy usage.

The mainboard reports the only highest temperature of 95c

My specs is

Gigabyte 990fx ud3 rev 1
Ram is left to auto
4gb ram XMS then 1 random ram 4.

Two are XMS3 1600mhz 2Gb 1.6v 9-9-9-24 together and one is 4gb DDR3 1333mhz DiMM CL9. 6gb is usable out of 8
Ram is reserved to 6gb
Ninja Cooling
Antec 450w power supply
Gpu gtx 550 ti
Amd fx8320

Wd 1tb black

Please help

You can't mix ram like that and expect it to be stable. Temps are too high also.

If it is freezing I woudl suspect the hard disk; You can mix ram like that but it is non optimal; you have one bank of dual channel and another bank of single channel. I don't know mcuh about GTA but doom definitly required more than 8 gb; does your hard disk light blink when it freezes ?

Make sure you are putting the 1333 RAM in slot 1 (it's the slot furthest from the CPU). When you boot up, use CPU-Z to make sure your RAM is running at 1333. Let us know if you still experience issues.

He's running 2 2gb sticks & 1 4gb stick, but the system registers 6gb? Yeah that's not a problem at all.

Yep what Burpo said, you can't mix 2 2gb stick and a 4gb stick and on top of it 2 sticks are 1600 and one is 1333. That it your problem right there!!Also make sure your Ninja Heatsink is bolted down nice and tight to that CPU cause those FX CPU's run hot as heck.

That is why it isn't registering all of his memory, but isn't necessarily causing the freezing. My main guess is that the order he has placed the memory in is causing the 1333 sticks to run faster than they are rated for.

one way to find out. Rip out the 4gb stick and place the 2 x 2gb sticks in slot B and D and run a few test games and see if its still happening if not then that is your problem.

Will be tough to run much these days with 4gb. Besides he said it was freezing not locking up so (perhaps incorrectly) I assumed it comes back after a short freeze. Running cpu-z or looking in the bios is a good suggestion as to how the machine is registering the memory. I was confsued by the 6gb 2gb reserved comment in the description - thought os was using 2gb and 6gb was available for the program.

so confusing :)

Good advice in this thread. Follow their guidance. For example, make certain the ninja is making good contact with the CPU and that the fan is working. Thermal paste may have dried up and require reapplication. Most importantly, if it has not been dusted lately check and see if it is clogging things up. Dust can become conductive too, so a clean case and components is good juju.

Removing ram sticks for testing is critical. It will quickly become apparent if that is your culprit. Try the XMS first and see if the symptoms persists. Choose a game that does not have higher requirements than 4GB minimum. Obviously try the 4GB stick next if the issue is present.
