My friend gave me an ABIT VT6X4 motherboard that he wasn't using anymore. I installed it in my computer, but after 30 seconds my computer loses all power. I had the motherboard replaced by ABIT, and they sent me a replacement, but it does it to. I've tried hooking ONLY the motherboard up to the power supply, and it still loses power after 30-60 seconds.

I've never had a problem with my 2 year old Asus P2B BX motherboard doing this. I have a 230 watt power supply. Could it be that the ABIT requires more than 230 watts, even with nothing else hooked up?

It may be a bad power supply. Funny how things break after you switch to something new. See if you can borrow one to fire up that board. What about RAM?

Smells like something is timing out. I installed it in my computer, but after 30 seconds my computer loses all power.Does this mean that everything was connected (keyboard, monitor, heatsink cooling fan, etc.)? Did it post before dying?

I tried connecting ONLY the motherboard and power supply, meaning absolutely NOTHING else was hooked up, not even a cpu or memory. I simply applied power to the motherboard, and after 30-60 seconds, the power supply turns off. Yet with my other motherboard, it works perfectly fine.
