Motherboard power supply issues

My son is building his own computer and needs some assistance. Can someone tell me if GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R motherboard will work with a Corsair vx550w power supply. Mother board has a 4 pin cpu connector location, however the power supply does dot have this type of connector.

Corsair say that it has a compatible connector http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/vx.aspx.
It may be that the 8-pin is in fact 2 4-pins that clip together.

Use the #0 or 1 connector instead of both.

It is, I have the 750w and they do split apart. So, yes it will work just dandy! 🙂

My son was able to plug in the CPU power and it worked. Thanks for your replies. Especially Heidfirst.
