I recently had my Epox 8K7A die on me (overheating issue). I bought a returned K7N from Microcenter, but upon installing all of my compenents into the new board, I cannot get any signal from the video card. I have since tried a different video card and other components, with no success. Upon a second retry, the CPU also went up in smoke on the new board, I believe because of some heavy jostling I did trying to get the heatsink on and off (I heard a slight "crunch" noise..) My concern now is that the 2nd motherboard may have been a dud all along too.
My question is, if all I have plugged into the mobo is just the video card, with no other components present, would the motherboard POST anything so I can confirm that the motherboard is working properly? (or do I need a CPU to receive any BIOS signal from the motherboard -> video card?)
The fan on the northbridge comes on, but that is the only indication I have that the board is not DOA. I'd hate to go out and buy a new CPU if the mobo also has to be replaced (and I only have about a week left to return it).
I've also cleared the CMOS with the jumper to make sure someting didn't corrupt the settings.
Any help would be very appreciated, thx!
