Question Motherboard - PCIE slots

Trying to decide which motherboard pcie slots will future proof for a few years. I will be gaming and streaming.

For the non primary pcie slots on a motherboard should I get slots with pcie 4.0 or pcie 3.0?

The motherboard I originally had in mind only has pcie 3.0 x4 and pcie 3.0 x 1.

Is this enough for the latest and future releases of capture cards? Will I ever need pcie 4.0? Will there be any hardware that will use pcie 4.0 slot? Or they will stay with pcie 3.0 and lower?

A bit of poking around suggests that capture cards max out around 1500+ MB/s even at high resolutions, which PCIe 3.0 x4 can easily handle. If your usage is gaming and streaming, I think you can essentially ignore PCIe 4.0.

PCIe 4.0 is twice as fast as PCIe 3.0, But it all depends on your mobo specs, I think some latest hardware will come in PCIe 4.0 But if you have PCIe 3.0 only, then better off with it 🙂
