hello,

i have several computer
PC1. I7 2600K 2pcs 8GB Kit (2x4GB) Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R Asrock z68 Extreme 4
PC2. i7 2600K 16GB Kit (4x4GB) Corsair CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 Gigabyte z68 UD7
PC3. i7 3930K Corsair 64GB Ram (8x8GB) Gigabyte x79 UD5

and all of them have problem detecting the ram,

on PC1, it doesn't even want to detect any of the RAM (always stuck in memory c1 error)
on PC2, few weeks ago the memory slot only work 2 out of 4 (i use 4x4gb ddr3) and now it
only work when i install 1 memory, when i fill the rest of the slot the computer will turn on for couple second and then turn off again and repeat, and i also have tried different combination like slot 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 or 1 and 4, etc and all of the slot.

and on PC3 now it only detect 48GB although all the ram are properly slotted (windows 10 64bit), and i don't even want to try to reslot it, afraid it will become like PC2.

on PC2 and PC1 i have tried to switch the RAM between them and all it's the same, and on PC2 all the memory do work only if i have placed it on the working slot, but not if it's installed on the other stopped working slot.

so my question is since the memory controller is in the processor, is it my processor that are broken or is it my motherboard? and why are problem happen so i can avoid it later on?

thanks for the answer and sorry for the english

for openers does Corsair say the the memory modules are compatible with the board (s) you are trying to use them on?

hello,

Yes it was listed as compatible on the motherboard site, do note that it used to work but now like example PC2 only work with one slot, so what i would like to know is whether the processor or the motherboard that have issue

thanks again

Where did these all come from?
Did you buy them all new?
And we're they working for you at some point?

Good unit, excepted for the cougar (I have seen good and bad reviews of those). Ok, Let's start with PC3. There isn't a Gigabyte z79X UD5H. There's a GA-Z97X-UD5H, but it only has 4 slots, and therefore only supports up to 32 GB or RAM. Bit it doesn't support the 3930k (I assume that's what you meant, as there is no 3930k).

So, before I go further, please check your models and try to give us correct numbers. It could make a difference.

But, I am still trying to wrap my head around these all not working. Were they all running at the same location at the same time? And did this location suffer some sort of electrical disturbance? Maybe all plugged into the same battery backup that went haywire?

At this point, the only thing I can think to try is swapping power supplies and see if there are any changes.

Hi,
Thanks for replying
yes it was a typo on my end sorry :D
i have fixed the first post, the pc3 is i7 3930k @ 3.20Ghz and the motherboard is gigabyte GA-X79-UD5, all pc are never overclocked and are using the standard fan from intel

the pc3 are used to be in other city and after the problem show up it was moved to the same house as pc1 and pc2. never had electrical disturbance except from the occasional shutdown from the power grid. and nope didn't use any battery backup or ups

will try to swap the power supplies and let you know, but could it because the temperature? as the weather are usually hot here and when i encode video i notice the cpu temp from pc3 could reach 80C (i set an alarm in the bios if it reach 80C)

I hear more horror storied than I would like that start with "I was moving my computer and". Double check the motherboard mounting screws, electrical, connections, etc. Maybe even take it to the shop that assembled it for you. It is almost never the CPU or memory.

A few years back, I mailed a custom build for a customer to Oregon. When it arrived it wouldn't post. I'm freaking out since it worked flawlessly before shipping. I painstakingly packed the machine inside and out. Turns out that one of the memory modules needed to be reseated. Whew!

Hi,

I'm Back, on PC3 i manage to replace the power supply with new one, i also change the casing to Full Tower (before it was mid-tower) so i move the motherboard to another casing (also making sure all the connection is tight) replace the processor thermal compound and i also reseat all the memory card

turn on my pc now windows detect my ram as 16GB (it should be 64GB), tried to reseat again and it detected 48GB,

so i took out the memory card again and clean the pin with eraser and connect them again, and first i only place 4 memory card (4x8GB) (in the correct channel according the mobo manual) bios and windows detect it correctly as 32GB, i then put another 3 memory card so (7x8GB) and windows and bios detect it correctly as 56GB and i then place the rest of the memory to 8 (8x8GB) and now bios and windows correctly detect 64GB, i also set the XMP to profile1 (default is disable) but it wont boot to windows, gigabyte said it detected something wrong and offer me to load to default preset, i restart the pc and it can boot to windows but one boot i got BOSD (Bad System Config), restart it again and it manage to boot windows but after few minutes using windows i got another BSOD (Memory Management)
so i turn off my pc and make sure the ram is properly seated by pushing all the memory to the slot, turn on my pc again and now windows detected 48GB again, but it doesn't bsod anymore

so i'm still confused as to what is wrong with my pc so please help :)

also when it detected as 16GB in windows, the UEFI Bios show strange result, in the M.I.T bios screen it say Total Memory Size 65536MB but in the Bios System Information it say Total Memory 16384MB (DDR3)

Thanks again for your help

Sounds like XMP is too tight for all those sticks. It does take a bit more time for for the CPU to address 8 sticks of memory that it does 2 or 4. Reset the BIOS and stick with default memory timings. Boot to Windows and make sure everything works. If you want to experiment with XMP some more, bump the memory voltage a bit before doing so.

Check for bent or burnt pins in the CPU socket also check for damaged contact pads of the CPU.
