Hello folks, long time not been here.. but well.. I need your help guys! So any input is much welcomes and appreciated!

I just got myself a MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo an its been paired up with a AMD AthlonXP 2600+

Now this is what is happening.. after a good 45 min diagnostic of me ripping, well not litterally but you get the idea of frustration, everything out and then putting them in one by one as you do to see what was defective and this problem would occur.. plug the power in and the computer would power up for roughly 2-3 second and then would powerdown be you hold or not hold the power button down..

After the diagnostic run I then attemped on the Ram, and still same problem, then the GF4 Ti4200, same problem.. then I took the CPU out and then booted.. and this time the computer would stay on!! Until I hit the power button to switch it off.. put the CPU back on and problem would come back again..

I've talked to Mem, fellow member on here, and I've tried minimal boot, incase the PSU was under powered.. but it shouldn't since its a 400Watter..

So Mem and me are all out of ideas on what I could do.. already suspect it is a CPU fault sicne I've tried re-sitting the HSF many times and stuff like that..

So its over to you guys!

Once again I thank you whole heartedly for any help and advice given, be it small or large it would be a step in the right direction!

can you get another cpu to test with? Or maybe another mobo to test that cpu?

I've e-mailed eBuyer U.K for a replacement.. but I guess since its the weekend nobody is there to read my little ol problem yet :(

I don't have another mobo or CPU to test the setup with :( The closest I have is a classic Athlon Slot A 650.. which is erm.. reason why I've got a new comp to play about with :p

Thank for the reply! Keep them coming :)

Sounds like it's the CPU overheat protection kicking in. If possible, check your CPU temps.

I hope its not the heat protection kicking in.. but I've got a CoolerMaster X Dream (HAC-V81) on the CPU, so it defo should not be overheating.. and I can't see how it could really over heat with only 2-3 second on time.. and there is no way I can check the temp at the moment.. don't have a thermometer pad thingy stuck to the CPU :p But if I did I probably wouldnt be able to see or find what the readings are becuase it powers down within 2-3 second of hitting the power button.. so not enough time.. :(

Well I'm just praying that eBuyer will exchange me for a new CPU and that hopefully would be the end of that.. but if it persists then its a big oh oh for me :(

I assume now it probably shouldn't be the mobo problem then right? Becuase it powers on when the CPU is removed.. but it does that power down when the CPU is in place.. :p :(

Anyway thanks for the advice!!
