Any suggestion is much appreciated. I have a Gigabyte GA X58A UD3R motherboard version 2.0. The motherboard has been running fine for the last few months and yesterday started giving me trouble. It first failed to boot into Windows-All I got was a 'Starting Windows' on my screen for 30 MINUTES with a lot of disk activities! (Usually it take about 20 seconds when normal.) So I hit the reset button and reboot. The post went fine but the computer just stopped after it finished 'Verifying DMI pool data........', with no HDD activity at all. It will post every time and I can go into BIOS setup without any problems. It just stopped without any warning message. I changed the hard disk from another system and still get the same thing. I tried using the boot menu to boot from CDROM drive and USB thumb drive and still get the same stoppage after 'Verifying DMI pool data.......' every time. The hard disk is fine and will work in another computer.

Please help. Thanks.

Reset the CMOS, not sure if it will help but it should be one of the first things you do if you have a suspected mobo problem.

To do this...

*Take the CMOS battery out of the motherboard
*Hold the power button on the case down for 30 seconds
*re-insert the battery and power the system back up
*Post back here if the problem went away of not

Thanks for the reply. I did what you mentioned already. Take the battery out...etc. I even flash the BIOS from within BIOS setup(Q-flash). Nothing works. It will post fine and let me go into BIOS setup, but stop right after showing 'Verifying DMI pool data......' without any disk activity. 1st boot after clear CMOS or flash BIOS or change BIOS setting, it will stop right after 'Verifying DMI pool data.......update success'. Seems to me that the computer is refuse to read from any of the drives, it just stopped without any warning message. I search the web trying to find how to boot from the backup BIOS (the motherboard has dual BIOS chip)to no avail.

The only thing I didn't do was hold the power button down for 30 seconds. But the computer was unplugged when I was taking out the battery.

Hard disk failure is highly unlikely. My boot drive is a Adata S511 120GB SSS. I also hooked up an old Intel X25M G2 80GB. Both of them would not boot(no disk activity) and not even a warning message. On top of that I have tried booting from the DVDROM and a bootable USB thumb drive, same result. I don't believe all these drives can fail at the same time. During posting, all of the hard drives and DVDROM drive we're regnized fine. I suspect the boot block of the BIOS is damaged. But I have no idea how to fix it except RMA(a pain). The motherboard has dual BIOS chips but I cannot force the backup BIOS to boot as long as the main BIOS posted fine. Thanks for your help.

Try moving the drive to another port, or just disconnect it. Disconnect the CDROM. You can also look in the bios for a DMI reset option. I've seen the same thing happen and I solved it by moving things around. It's very likely that the board is fine.

Make sure you AHCI setting is correct. Did you install windows with AHCI enabled?
