Check out my thread here.

What should I replace my p4p800-e deluxe with? I want to use the same hardware I already have. Would it be best to replace with the same board?

If I replace with a different board am I going to have to format and reload all software?

Suggestions please.

You can go with a board with the same chipset (ex.- Intel 865pe) and avoid a format and fresh install. Otherwise, plan on it by backing up your files with a program such as norton ghost.

I sent off a note to ASUS about the problem. Below is their reply.

please check to make sure your power supply can supply enough power to your system.
If the CPU is below 700 MHz, the power supply we suggest as follows:
300 Watts with +5 Volt @ 25 amps, +12 Volt @ 10 amps, and +3.3 Volt @ 14 amps.
If the CPU speed is above 700MHz, the power supply we suggest as follows:
350 Watt with +5V @ 30 amps, +12V @ 12 amps, and +3.3V @ 22 amps.
For Dual Intel MB, Min. P.S. should be:
350 Watt with +5V @ 35 amps, +12V @ 15 amps, and +3.3V @ 22 amps.
For Dual AMD MB, Min. P.S. should be:
400 Watt with +5V @ 38 amps, +12V @ 15 amps, and +3.3V @ 20 amps.
Please note that these are only suggestions and the actual size of the power supply may be higher than we suggest. Also, depending on the config of your system, you may need more power than listed above. For example, running multiple hard drives, CR-Rom drives or other accessories may increase the power requirements of your system!
Sincerely,

Daniel

The supply I replaced with was a bear min to their specs. I have ordered a 600watt to put in and see what happens. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

The original title of the thread sounded as if the idea was physically replacing the Northbridge, which AFAIK wouldn't have been possible, so I ignored the thread last week. I ignore a great deal of the foolishness in video; it seems filled up with juvenile-minded sorts.

Be that as it may, your actual question was answered incorrectly. A Win9X version of Windows actually has more difficulty in the long run, with such changes than does a Win-NT based OS, such as W2K or WinXP, with the proviso that it probably WILL NOT BOOT right away after changing out the hardware; until and unless a "Repair" reinstall is performed.

The older OS type may boot, but it will get hung up by the "New Hardware Wizard" after that, unless the last thing done with the OS before shutting down the old MB for the last time was to remove all of the "Devices" associated with the MB's chip set from the Device Manager (and any device-specific software in the Add-Remove list) before that last power-off.
