motherboard mounting issue...

Quick question. I assembled my new machine over the weekend using an ASUS P5K-E/WiFi-AP in a Yeong Yang server cube (ATX/EATX). After installing the board I noticed that the back panel connectors weren't quite sitting high enough - the standoffs were too short. I checked out a few computer shops for some taller standoffs but anything they had were shorter then what I was already using.

In the end, I broke out my MacGyver and used some 4mm brass washers under the standoffs... worked like a charm. I'd just like to know what was up as I had an ATX board in the case before... changes to the ATX form factor?

No ATX board height changes that I've encountered in many system builds, including using the P5K series boards. I would assume your case is a bit off the standard. Have you checked for others using the same model Yeong Yang? Try popping another ATX board in the case...

It's definitely odd. I've used two ATX boards in this chassis over the years... one for an an Thunderbird rig then an Athlon XP system. Both fit fine using the existing standoffs. Didn't have to change a thing.

Ah well. The board sits high enough with the standoffs raised by the washers and everything is working fine as is. I'll leave it alone.

I'd say breaking out your MacGyver worked out just fine...some mysteries aren't worth over investigating.
