Motherboard Installation Question (Antec 830 + ECS Mobo)

Okay...I'm putting together a machine right now (it's only my second), and I've forgotten quite a bit from the last time that I did it. First...on connecting the case stuff (HDD LED...etc) to the MB, for example say the speaker connection...which direction do I put the connecter. Since it isn't keyed or anything...I don't want to fark anything up. Also...just making sure, black is + and red is - right? Alrighty...thank you.

Oh...and here is another question. The Power LED from the case is a 3 pin connector, and on the mobo there is only a 2 pin connection. So...the mobo has 2 for the Power LED, and 2 for the Power Switch, whereas the case has 3 for the LED and 2 for the switch.

Thanks once again...

it varies, check your case documentation (it may not say either), normally black is -, and red is + (hot), as far as this Pwr LED is concerned, what case do you have? most probably you only need to of the wires, figure out which one (maybe through trial and error), i would check the case docs though to see what the third wire is for, you can take the wires out of the connector and connecter the wires straight to the pins .. you wont messing anything up with those, not unless ur entirely careless, but if u just mis-wire it, worst case, the LED/Pwr/etc just wont work and u will have to rewire again .. good luck .. and another thing, since ur asking about mobo installation, make sure the mobo isnt grounding out (touching metal) on the case, or anything else, this is a common problem as leads to many un-needed rma's ..

Yah....I know a little about frying motherboards...hehe, I got that down. The thing is, the documentation for both the case (Antec 830) and the mobo (ECS K7S5A) don't have anything in regards to the + and -, or in regards to the question about too many wires. I guess I'll go trial and error on that one...but I still have no idea about the + and - issue.

The speaker and switchs are non-polarized, ie it don't make any difference which way you connect them, ok, so your speaker will blow instead of suck, heck you only use it for mobo beebs anyway.

You must have a ECS k7S5a, Good luck.

You can move one of the pins in the connector over to the center position by lifting the thin plastic tab on the body of the connector which retains the metal pin, give it a close look and you will see it. Of course to make things interesting the LED is polarized, ie , it makes a difference which way it is connnected. That means you need to find the postive pin and the postive wire and make sure they line at the same time your now empty third socket hangs out over the end of the connector.

Clear as mud? Check the board here it has lots of good info on the ECS board.

Okay...yah, that was a little confusing. first off:

Are you confirming that red is positive?

Secondly...I have no idea what you mean for taking off the black casing housing the connectors...do I push or pull on anything?

I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but for the life of me, I don't want to screw anything up...

First step would be to figure out how to remove a pin. Start by examing the connector, one side will have small "windows" through which you can see exosed metal. This is the business side, now if you look close you can see thin plastic tabs which engage barbs on the metal socket, use a pin and lift the thin plastic tab, this will free the socket allowing you to pull it out with the wire (pull on the wire). Move the colored wire to the center, now test it there is only one way it will fit. IF it still does not work, remove the other socket and move it to the other side, It had better work now.

Hope that helps.
