motherboard info overload...Halp!`

Appreciate any guidance you can give me, I'm overwhelmed with board info and don't have time to compare the dozens and dozens of specs on boards - P5K, P5B, P5N etc - and don't understand what some of those features do anyway!

I'm upgrading to a prebuilt system but still speccing out motherboards because I don't want to get the wrong build...taking a break from making my own rigs for a couple years as prices are pretty amazing now and I haven't got the time to order...install...configure...troubleshoot...then eventually work.

I want an ASUS board as I've had a P4PE for 3 or 4 years, rock solid, never a squawk other than the occasional cold boot failure.

I'm getting a quad Q6600, of which there are a variety of ASUS board systems for sale. I don't care much about overclocking, just need a good, affordable, but fast imaging station for my photography work.

Can someone steer me in the right direction? Here's my needs:

Heavy on Photoshop CS3 and Premiere 1.5 . I'll get at least 4 GB, probably 8 given the low prices now for memory. I have 7200 IDE drives, will get one 250GB+ drive with system

* I don't need wifi,
* I do need a board that will let me plug in an IDE or two so I can use my current drives that are 300GB each rather than transfer everything to SATA drives, which means I need probably several USB ports (more than 6) to rig at least one of those drives as external, maybe firewire also
* I want at least 512MB video, SLI is okay I guess although I don't know the advantages/disadv of having or not having so well, only that it's faster for gamers...I think.
* Video has to be dual head as I have two digital monitors...my current card is AGP...any Quad motherboard that still supports AGP or am I better off buying a new video board?All suggestions appreciated.
* I saw the QVL memory list online, which was impossible to find on the ASUS site. Does anyone know if that long list is just for a particular board, or for all ASUS boards? There's no way to know for sure.

* Finally, any suggestions (don't mean to be off topic here but don't want to post in ten different forums either) on ready built systems, either Ebay's or elsewhere? Budget is the challenge, $1500 is my limit.

Mostly, I'm interested in performance for the Quad that's solid and stable, don't need the last bit of speed as much as dependability.

Thank you for your help!
