I have an Asrock z690 Phantom Gaming 4 with an Intel 12600kf, and was experiencing problems with my front headers with the case I am using. I am using a Corsair 4000D Air that was newly purchased. I could not get the front panel led's to work even RMA'ed the front panel header on the case and even the new ones would not work.
I was just curious if anyone has experienced faulty front header pins on motherboards. The reset and power connectors are working as advertised. But for the life of me can not get the front led+ and led- to light the case power button. The really strange thing is if I put the led's on the HDD light the front button works when I have SSD/NVME activity. That is how I have it running now, as this case does not come with front hdd+- headers. Yes I did switch out +,- position even did the 45 degree trick insert the connectors at different angles just to verify things even if it should not make a difference. This was done both ways regardless of +,- orientation.
In my brief inspection I did not see any damage to the Motherboard front panel and everything works as expected, but out of curiosity what are the chances of having a faulty pin or pins in front header? I know I could send the board back, but I have never had this kind of problem, and in my past dealings with motherboard manufactures once you RMA it's like Russian Roulette.
This was a budget build, with a budget chip and a budget board. Everything seems to be working as it's intended I don't want to swap out the board to another case just to verify front headers are working. Like I said the pins look intact and reset and power buttons work, even the hdd led pins work, not the led power pins work.
I did forget to mention that I have tried the RGB and other light emitting settings in BIOS, when I do power on the boad I get the status light but this board has no RGB, I am on the latest bios, but do run Linux only. Once again any of that should not effect the front panel headers.
