motherboard form factor- INTEL

Hi,

I'm about to buy an INTEL motherboard.

I don't know much about hardware, and wondering which form factor for the motherboard I should get.

There are two:
Intel® Desktop Board D955XCS
Form Factor BTX (12.80 inches by 10.50 inches [325.12 mm by 266.71 mm])

or

Intel® Desktop Board D955XBK
Form Factor ATX (12.00 inches by 9.60 inches [304.80 mm by 243.84 mm])

Does it matter which I get? BTX is the newer one right? Should I just go with that?

Thanks!

BTX is the new standard for Intel, but is really quite useless. They initially designed the form factor to help with cooling by moving around some of the components, however, in some respects it actually hurt performance. All in all, stick with ATX; you'll have a much easier time finding a case to fit the board and it will probably be cheaper too.

By the way welcome to Anandtech.
