You'll get lots of answers. Here's my own spin.
I think Socket-370 is a cleaner install since it puts the
CPU directly onto the motherboard. I've done a few Slockets
and it can be hit or miss depending on the slocket, the dip
switches, and voltages you have set in the bios or on the motherboard
switches. So I'd rather just avoid that whole mess and get a board
that is designed for the coppermine fcpga cpu. (Not to mention the
AGP divider issues and slower FSB issues if you go 440BX chipset.)
For brands, I think the top two i815E chipset I would go with are GIGABYTE
(
www.giga-byte.com) and ASUS. You can get either at
www.mwave.com
ASUS has the force of numbers and staff behind it, so while the CUSL2
has had teething pains, I think they will do well in ironing out
any little difficulties over time. I haven't had any problems with
the GIGABYTE i815E based motherboards we have seen in our systems.
Both are very good performers, and getting the PC133 CAS2 memory
in there, and a CPU that is 133FSB, just a nice performance target
to shoot for in a value-performance system. See
