Question Motherboard for Ryzen 2700 NAS

I am putting together an Unraid NAS. Picked up a 2700 to start with and now need a motherboard. The case I am looking at is Micro ATX but may end up with a full size so options for both would be appreciated. There will be no overclocking at all. I need as many full speed SATA as I can get. M.2 that is separate from those lanes is a big bonus. I have been out of the PC building game for a long long time, around a decade or so, so I am a bit out on the lingo i.e. M.2 NVME etc. Only card will be a single video card for transcoding for now with the possibility of an SATA expansion down the road. Budget is what it takes but cheaper the better with used being perfectly fine just need to know what to look for. Thanks guys.

I think ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 ATX mobo has 8 SATA ports, and a couple of M.2 ports, and some expansion ports.

I don't understand, completely, why you picked up a Ryzen CPU, rather than an APU, for a NAS unit. It means that you need to acquire, and utilize, a discrete GPU. In a NAS. Unless you were planning on doing some IOMMU-style pass-through of the dGPU to a VM to play games on your NAS with, I guess.

Its going to be a Plex box with sonar radar etc. mostly 4K. Some other back up but a distant second. One. feachure I plan automated transcoding to h.265 which the 2600 would help a lot. For play I intend to install a cheap P400 for transcoding. I dont have any customer just houshold use. I’f im way off base let me know please

I really like my ASRock B450 Fatality ITX motherboard. It is often less than $100 and does great with my 2700x. Not sure of how the SATA/M.2 arrangement is though.

Sounds like you'll want an X470 board. The Asrock X470 Taichi for instance has 8xSATA and a couple of m.2 slots. I'm sure there are others that are similarly kitted out.

X370 TaiChi, open-box special at Newegg, $125.99! Picked mine up last night for an unraid setup. (It has TEN onboard SATA ports!)

Thinking about a FD Define R6 (white is $126), plus a couple pairs of HDD trays at Amazon ($10-12 each set).

Still need CPU for mine, might have a 1600 left over in the pile. Have a 32GB kit of DDR4-2667 RAM.
