Motherboard for Q9450

Helping a friend pick a motherboard for his Q9450. He wants esata. It is not for gaming.

DDR2 ram is what he's getting.

His use style is having about 20 webpages open at once frequently. Having Photoshop open, Adobe, and maybe even scanning stuff at the same time. He will have two to Four monitors setup in the near future. 2 being first.

I was looking at the 8800gts or the 9800gtx for him for the two monitor setup. He will be running vista 64 bit with 8gb ram.

Any help on which MB would be best suited for him would be a big help.

If it's not for gaming, those cards you specced out are way overkill (in terms of performance, price, power consumed, and heat generated.) I would go for a nice 9600GT, which I've seen for ~$125ish AR a couple of times.

As for the mobo, you can't really go wrong with any of the P35 boards. I have the Gigabyte DS3L and the Xeon version of that cpu but there's no esata on this board.

Yeah I thought about the 9600 but I'm willing to bet he will be playing some games in the future after the computer is fully setup. He got the 8800gts 512 g92 evga card for 230 after rebate. Figured it was a decent price for him.

I would not recommend the Gigabyte P35-ds3l. The last bios is quite old. It supports the Wolfedale out of the box, but I don't know about the Yorkfield(Q9450).
I happen to have a Q9450 showing up anyday now, and already have the P35-DS3L. I will definately try the two.

EDIT: My bad
Gigabyte has a beta bios out that supports the new quads🙂

beta BIOS
update CPU ID (support Intel Yorkfield Q9xxx series CPU)

2 things:

1) I didn't rec'd that mobo to him. I simply said I have it and it doesn't have esata.
2) I'm actually running that cpu on that mobo...
