Hi,

I'm putting together a home server, and have acquired an LSI 4x PCI Express SATA RAID card. Is it possible to use a board with on board video and put the RAID card in the PCI express slot normally used for video?

Of course there are SLI PCI Express motherboards too. I guess I am not clear as to whether PCI express slots that are normally used for video can be used fo something else.

Many boards I see have a secondary PCI Express slot but it is only 1x.

Prefer on board video, and on board gigabit network.

Any board suggestions?

Thanks,
Stan

You can use a PCI Express x16 slot for a RAID card (x1, x4, x8 or x16) with no problem (usually). For example, BIOSTAR TF7025-M2 GeForce 7025 and nForce 630a Socket AM2 mATX board and ASUS P5B-VM DO Intel Q965 mATX LGA775 board. BIOS should have an entry like "Init Display First: PCIEx (default), PCI Slot, Onboard". Choose "Onboard".
